EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a method of psychotherapy for people who have survived trauma. This approach was developed by Francine Shapiro and has become one of the most effective treatments for the treatment of disturbing experiences.
EMDR is an integrated model that incorporates aspects of body-based, behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic and systems therapies. It helps trauma survivors reprocess disturbing thoughts and memories, providing an effective treatment and long-term stabilisation. It comprises of an eight phase treatment that includes the use of eye movement or other left-right stimulation. Its success has led to recognition by National Institute for Clinical Excellence.
I am currently in training with this approach with Dr Alexandra Richmond in London.
